Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2026 Drops Massive “Evercold” Expansion Details, Switch 2 Release Date, and Epic Crossovers
Square Enix lit up the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin with a barrage of major announcements for the acclaimed MMORPG, led by explosive new details for the upcoming “Evercold” expansion. Set to kick off the brand-new “Godless Realms” saga penned by director and producer Naoki Yoshida, the expansion will transport players to the Fourth—one of 13 reflections of the original Source world—introducing fresh environments like Naglfar (Realmship of Water), Fargarth, and Hringhorni (Realmship of Fire). Alongside the brand-new Bastion Job and a teaser for a second unannounced job slated for Tokyo’s Fan Festival on October 31, Square Enix confirmed that the previously announced Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XIV will officially launch on August 4.
High-Profile Crossovers Bring Neon Genesis Evangelion and Final Fantasy VII Remake to Evercold
The Berlin keynote also pulled back the curtain on staggering crossover content heading to the MMORPG, headlined by a collaboration with Neon Genesis Evangelion titled “Ghosts of Desire,” which features guest creator Mahiro Maeda. Additionally, Final Fantasy XIV is teaming up with Final Fantasy VII Remake to introduce the “Beyond the Lifestream: Evercold” eight-player raid series alongside a “Keybound Brawler” Gold Saucer typing minigame. Meanwhile, in mobile developments, Square Enix and Tencent announced that the regional mobile version developed by Lightspeed Studios will end service in mainland China on September 30, with its planned global launch seemingly canceled.
