Bangladesh Establish Strong Position at Lunch on Day Two of Darwin Test

Bangladesh has put itself in a solid position after the first session of Day Two in the Darwin Test, trailing Australia by just 17 runs, reaching 181 for 2 at lunch. The team successfully navigated the session with only one wicket lost, thanks to key contributions from Tanzid Hasan and Mominul Haque.

Tanzid is unbeaten on 74, having shared a significant 102-run partnership for the second wicket with Mominul, who scored 49 before being dismissed. At the break, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto joined Tanzid at the crease with a score of 28.

The morning session commenced carefully, with Mominul and Tanzid adopting a cautious approach. Mominul flicked a boundary off Pat Cummins to bring up Bangladesh’s 100, having started the day at 96 for 1. The pair added only two more boundaries in the next ten overs, maintaining a watchful progress.

Bangladesh’s first sign of aggression came when Tanzid executed an impressive shot over mid-off against Beau Webster, which also marked the team’s century partnership. However, Mominul lost focus shortly after, edging a delivery from Josh Hazlewood to the wicketkeeper for 49, deviating from his previously resolute style of play.

Despite close calls, Australia failed to capitalize on opportunities to dismiss Tanzid, who received a couple of reprieves, including a dropped catch by Nathan Lyon and a miss from wicketkeeper Alex Carey after an edge. This allowed Tanzid to continue building his innings.

Shanto also looked to capitalize on the early momentum, hitting two boundaries off Cameron Green as he sought to build on the team’s strong start. This followed a solid performance from Bangladesh’s bowlers the previous day, with Hasan Mahmud claiming six wickets to restrict Australia to 198 runs in just 53 overs.
