Birmingham Phoenix Secure Victory Over MI London, Avoid Wooden Spoon
Birmingham Phoenix defeated MI London by five wickets, with Ellyse Perry’s impressive unbeaten 62 leading the charge as MI London suffered their sixth defeat in a challenging campaign. This match was crucial for both teams, each with only one win prior to this fixture, and it allowed Phoenix to break a three-game losing streak, finishing seventh in the standings.
Chasing a modest target of 122, Phoenix encountered early setbacks, collapsing to 48 for 4 after the powerplay. Jemima Spence and Davina Perrin fell early, followed by dismissals of England’s Alice Capsey and Emma Lamb, while Kirstie Gordon’s left-arm spin (2-20) posed significant challenges for the batting side.
Perry’s partnership with Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana proved pivotal, as they recovered from the early collapse with a fifth-wicket stand of 66 runs. Sana scored a steady 36 from 32 balls before being dismissed by Nicola Carey when only seven runs remained. Perry, who faced 39 balls, ultimately claimed victory with six balls to spare.

Armitage added 31 runs, but MI London’s total of 120 for 6 was insufficient, especially after Gray took Armitage out with the last ball of the innings.
Perry was named the Meerkat Match Hero, reflecting on the team’s effort: “It’s nice to finish on a high. I thought we bowled especially well today. I can’t fault our effort the whole way through this tournament, we’ve given it absolutely everything we can, it just hasn’t come off for the most part. Today to finish well, at home, with a really great atmosphere here as usual, was lovely.”
