India Men’s Hockey Team Clinches Victory Over Australia in Shootout
In an exhilarating conclusion to their FIH Pro League leg, the Indian men’s hockey team defeated Australia 3-1 in a shootout after the match ended in a 1-1 draw at Hobart, Australia. This win secured India an additional two points, marking a pivotal moment after two prior shootout losses against Australia and Spain in this leg.
During regulation time, Australia’s Jeremy Hayward opened the scoring with a penalty corner in the 49th minute. India quickly equalized three minutes later when Shilanand Lakra scored, showcasing the team’s resilience. Despite facing intense pressure, India managed to regroup and convert their chances effectively in the shootout.
In the shootout, India’s Mohith HS proved crucial, executing impressive stick tackles that denied Australian players Tim Brand, Liam Henderson, and Cooper Burns. For India, Shilanand and Maninder Singh were successful, while Abhishek missed his attempt. Even after Mohith conceded a stroke that Hayward converted, Vishukanth’s decisive goal sealed India’s victory.
