Ronaldo Poised for Potential Return in Al Nassr’s Season Opener
In a surprising turn of events, Ange Postecoglou indicated that Cristiano Ronaldo may play in Al Nassr’s first match of the Saudi Pro League season. Postecoglou remarked that the Portugal legend is “always ready,” as the team gears up to defend their title against Al Fateh on Saturday at 7 p.m. BST, 2 p.m. ET.
This week saw a significant boost for the squad with the return of the 41-year-old Ronaldo, who resumed training following his recent wedding to Georgina Rodriguez. Upon Ronaldo’s return, Postecoglou welcomed him back with a video message, congratulating him and wishing blessings for his family.
As he prepares for his 25th senior season, Ronaldo returned to training sporting a new haircut. He is nearing a remarkable milestone, eyeing his 1,000th career goal, having so far scored 976 goals in 1,326 matches between club and international play. Last season, he finished as the third-highest goal scorer in the Saudi Pro League, netting 28 goals.
Postecoglou was appointed as Al Nassr’s manager on July 3, replacing Jorge Jesus, and has signed a two-year contract. He faces the challenge of leading the team to defend their title, which they clinched by a narrow two-point margin over rivals Al-Hilal.
The former manager of Tottenham and Nottingham Forest expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness for the new season but acknowledged the potential challenges ahead. “My role is to deal with the players currently here, and they are all present in the team,” Postecoglou stated. He emphasized the healthy competition among players and their strong performances in training.
