Warwickshire Eliminates Kent from Metro Bank One-Day Cup with 87-Run Victory

Warwickshire triumphed over Kent by 87 runs at Rugby School, effectively knocking Kent out of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. This match marked Warwickshire’s third consecutive win in the competition.

The Bears, setting a target of 263 runs, were bowled out with 29 balls to spare. Vansh Jani led the scoring with a standout innings of 98, his List A-best, while no other batsman crossed the 40-run mark against a disciplined Kent bowling attack spearheaded by Matt Milnes, who recorded figures of 4 for 52.

In response, Kent struggled significantly and were bundled out for just 176 runs in 33.4 overs. Their hopes of qualification were dashed by an explosive opening spell from Ethan Bamber, who took 4 wickets for 29 runs, and Tazeem Ali, who contributed 3 for 37.

After Kent elected to field first, Milnes quickly made his mark, taking two wickets in his opening spell, dismissing Rob Yates and Zen Malik. Jani formed a vital partnership of 55 runs with Kai Smith, who scored 36, before Kent’s bowlers began to exert pressure.

Jani reached his half-century in just 39 balls, marking it as his fourth in five innings, but fell two runs short of his maiden List A century after a dismissal by Jaydn Denly. The batting fortunes faltered, with Kent’s spinners claiming three wickets in six overs.

Jake Lintott and Michael Booth added some late runs, but Milnes returned to dismiss Booth. Kent faced a nightmarish start in their innings, slumping to 23 for 5 by the seventh over.

Bamber struck twice in rapid succession, claiming the wickets of Ben Dawkins and Sam Northeast, while further dismissals followed quickly for Daniel Bell-Drummond, Benjamin, and Denly. The brief resistance came from Grant Stewart and Ekansh Singh, who managed a partnership of 60 runs.

Despite Stewart hitting three successive sixes off Booth, it was ultimately too late, as Kent’s defeat ensured both teams exited the tournament.
