Guide to Protecting Your Accounts on Popular AI Platforms from Hackers

Hackers may target user accounts on major AI platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, prompting concerns over account security. To assist users in safeguarding their accounts, TechCrunch has developed a detailed guide to identify potential breaches on these popular platforms.

For enhanced security, it’s crucial to employ unique passwords using a password manager and to activate multi-factor authentication (MFA). While ChatGPT and Perplexity support MFA, Claude relies on an email login link instead of traditional passwords, lacking MFA entirely.

Account Security Checks

Users can verify the security of their accounts across these platforms through similar methods. Here’s how each service operates:

ChatGPT

To check for unauthorized access to your ChatGPT account, log in via a web browser and click on your username at the bottom left corner. Navigate to “Settings,” then “Security and Login,” and select “Active Sessions.” This section displays all active logged-in devices.

If you encounter any unrecognized devices, you have the option to log out from that specific device or choose to “Log out all” to terminate all sessions.

If you wish to change your password, log out of your account first. Then, select “Log in,” enter your email address, click on “Forgot password,” and follow the prompts to receive a six-digit code via email. Enter this code to set a new password.

Claude

For Claude, access your account through a web browser, click on your username in the bottom-left corner, and go to “Settings” followed by “Account” to view “Active sessions.” If any session seems unfamiliar, you can hover over it and select the three vertical dots to log out or terminate that session. Additionally, you can log out of all devices.

As Claude does not utilize passwords, you can simply log back in using your email address, which will direct you to an email link for access.

Perplexity

Unlike the other platforms, Perplexity does not disclose active logged-in devices. If you suspect unauthorized access, click your username in the bottom-left corner, navigate to “All settings,” and select “Sign out of all sessions.” Confirm to log out from all devices.

You can then log back in by entering your email address to receive a unique six-digit login code via email, which can be entered on the website or accessed directly from the email link provided.
