Claressa Shields Reclaims WBC and WBA Middleweight Titles with TKO Victory Over Kaye Scott

Claressa Shields secured a dominant TKO victory against Kaye Scott on Saturday night, reclaiming the WBC and WBA middleweight championships at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Shields, who now holds a record of 19 wins and no losses (4 KOs), dropped down three weight classes to compete at middleweight for the first time since her reign as the undisputed champion in 2023.

Scott, entering the ring with a record of 5 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, stood her ground and exchanged blows with Shields, known as “The GWOAT.” However, Shields’ exceptional power and precision overwhelmed the defending champion, leaving Scott with a noticeable welt on her forehead early in the second round.

Shields demonstrated clear dominance throughout the match, forcing Scott to take a count after a powerful left hook in the sixth round. Recognizing her opponent’s weakened state, Shields sought the finish, prompting Scott’s corner to throw in the towel. The referee officially halted the bout at 1 minute and 38 seconds into the sixth round.

Prior to this match, Shields had competed at the heavyweight division, including a unanimous decision victory over Franchon Crews-Dezurn in February. Notably, Shields has also been an undisputed champion at junior middleweight, making her the only woman to hold undisputed titles across three different weight classes. Scott, at 42 years old, was making her first title defense during this fight.
