Stripe Acquires OpenRouter for Over $7 Billion
Stripe has completed its acquisition of OpenRouter, with the deal valued at more than $7 billion, according to a report from Bloomberg. This follows previously reported acquisition talks between the two companies, which were highlighted by The Wall Street Journal last month.
OpenRouter offers a platform that allows users to choose from various AI models tailored to their specific tasks, needs, and budget. In May, the company announced it had secured $113 million in a Series B funding round, achieving a valuation of approximately $1.3 billion. Key investors include Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, Menlo Ventures, and Alphabet’s Capital G.
CEO Alex Atallah has likened OpenRouter to “Stripe for AI,” emphasizing its role in providing customers with a single point of access to multiple systems while avoiding vendor lock-in. The startup reportedly boasts 8 million users globally and offers access to over 400 AI models.
A Stripe spokesperson has stated that the company does not comment on rumors or speculation.
