Barbados Tridents Secure Nine-Run Victory Over St Lucia Kings in Rain-Shortened Match
In a thrilling clash, the Barbados Tridents narrowly defeated the St Lucia Kings by nine runs after rain reduced the match to 18 overs per side. The Tridents posted 177 for 5, led by Sherfane Rutherford’s explosive 61 off just 28 balls. In response, the Kings managed 168 for 6, with Ackeem Auguste top-scoring for his team with 63 runs.
The match began on a shaky note for the Tridents, losing Zachary Carter early. However, Quinton de Kock and Brandon King soon ignited the innings, scoring aggressively after the third over. De Kock particularly targeted Maheesh Theekshana, while King found success against Matthew Forde, contributing to a fifth over that yielded 23 runs.
During the Kings’ chase, Auguste emerged as the standout performer, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled against disciplined bowling from the Tridents, with bowlers Gudakesh Motie and Mujeeb Ur Rahman taking key wickets. The Kings lost their openers within the first six overs, while Chris Green’s economical bowling added more pressure. Auguste, however, showcased his power hitting, scoring a rapid fifty off 28 balls with significant contributions from Green’s last over and a three sixes from Raom Simmonds.
