Chandimal Injured After Diving to Intercept Shot by KL Rahul

Sri Lankan cricketer Dinesh Chandimal suffered a shoulder injury during the fourth over of India’s second innings while attempting to intercept a shot from KL Rahul. Chandimal sprinted from deep midwicket to deep square leg but landed awkwardly, falling legs-over-torso and causing his neck and shoulder to contort under his body.

Physical discomfort was evident as he collapsed near the boundary, prompting immediate attention from team-mates, the team physiotherapist, and the doctor. Chandimal was seen grasping his neck and shoulder multiple times before he managed to gingerly rise to his feet and head towards the dressing rooms.

Substitute fielder Pasindu Sooriyabandara replaced Chandimal on the field. Should subsequent scans reveal a significant neck injury, there is potential for Chandimal to be replaced by a concussion substitute for the remainder of the Test match. Sooriyabandara is identified as the spare top-order batter in the squad.

In Sri Lanka’s first innings, Chandimal scored just 4 runs, with the team ending at 284 in response to India’s total of 462, giving the visitors a lead of 178 runs before the fourth day’s play commenced.
