Newcastle United Approaches Manchester City for Nico González Transfer
Newcastle United has initiated discussions with Manchester City regarding a potential transfer for midfielder Nico González, according to sources. Despite González’s statements during the preseason expressing his desire to remain at the Etihad Stadium this season, City is receptive to offers for the 24-year-old.
This move comes after Newcastle’s decision to bolster their midfield following Bruno Guimarães’ recent £75 million transfer to Arsenal. González joined Manchester City in January 2025 from Porto for £50 million and has since made 59 appearances, netting four goals, including the decisive strike in last season’s FA Cup semifinal against Southampton.
Should negotiations with Newcastle advance, González would become the fourth senior midfielder to depart from Manchester City this summer, following Bernardo Silva’s free transfer to Real Madrid and Rodri’s confirmed move to Barcelona. Additionally, Tijjani Reijnders is set to conclude his transfer to Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia.
Newcastle’s summer signing, Elliot Anderson, featured in the midfield alongside 32-year-old Mateo Kovacic during the Community Shield loss to Arsenal. Meanwhile, Manchester City is reportedly optimistic about securing 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille. The club also maintains interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández, despite recent offers having been submitted ahead of Chelsea’s self-imposed deadline.
