How I Met Your Mother Cast Encountered Major Spoilers During Production
While filming “How I Met Your Mother,” actor Josh Radnor remained committed to the series even after being informed about a significant plot twist involving the character of the mother. In an interview with Vulture following the show’s 2014 finale, Radnor explained, “They had mentioned to me the twist about the mother in the first season, and I kind of put it out of my head. I didn’t know if they would actually want to come back to it and do that, especially after Cristin, because she was so wonderful and the fans seemed to really take to her.” He later confirmed his concerns by asking the show’s creators if they would still go through with the storyline, to which they responded affirmatively.
Actress Cristin Milioti, who played the mother, learned about her character’s fate during a Christmas party with the cast and crew. During a conversation with producer Carter Bays, Milioti joked about the ending, asking, “What, do I die?” After Bays confirmed he could share details, she opted to learn the outcome, a decision that understandably left her upset. “I sat there sobbing,” she recounted, adding that Bays followed up with an apologetic email the next day, acknowledging that she seemed really upset about the revelation.
