Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, Michelle Buteau, and Anna Faris Star in Upcoming Film Spa Weekend
Stars Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, Michelle Buteau, and Anna Faris have found both work and personal rejuvenation while filming Spa Weekend. “I couldn’t believe that we were able to make it. Truly,” Faris expressed, recalling her initial doubts about the project as the scheduled start date approached. She has previously felt sidelined in films where her role was secondary to male characters, but in this movie, her character, Sophie, is a “reactor” rather than merely a supporting player.
In theaters August 21, Spa Weekend features a group of lifelong friends embarking on a much-needed spa retreat, which turns out to be more chaotic than expected. Fisher noted her approach to making films is about creating what she personally enjoys viewing, mentioning her admiration for productions like Bad Moms and Bridesmaids. The film’s writer-director duo, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, alongside producer Suzanne Todd, previously collaborated on these popular projects, aiming to contribute to the genre of female-led comedies with this new endeavor.
Buteau likened her star-studded co-stars to Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s iconic Super Bowl performance, acknowledging the extraordinary talent they bring to the film. Lucas expressed a commitment to crafting joyful, memorable comedies that resonate with audiences, despite the scarcity of such films in contemporary cinema.
