Mark Zuckerberg Acquires 19th-Century Strancally Castle in Ireland
Mark Zuckerberg has purchased a historic estate near Meta’s international headquarters, acquiring Strancally Castle, a 19th-century property set on 440 acres in Waterford, Ireland. The castle’s estimated price ranges from $23 million to $35 million.
A spokesperson stated, “Mark and his family are excited to continue caring for this historic home and look forward to spending time in Ireland, where Meta maintains its international headquarters.”
Strancally Castle, which boasts at least 11 bedrooms, four tower suites, a library, a dining room, and a drawing room, is situated along a river and surrounded by lush greenery. It was previously owned by a financier who resided there for 25 years. The investment reflects Zuckerberg’s interest in maintaining properties within close proximity to Meta’s operations.
Meta’s international headquarters is located in Dublin, approximately two hours from Waterford, where the castle is situated. The company opened a 31,000-square-foot data center in Dublin in 2017, further solidifying its presence in Ireland.
This acquisition is not Zuckerberg’s only significant real estate move in 2023, as he and his wife reportedly purchased a $170 million home in an exclusive Miami neighborhood, coinciding with a trend of tech billionaires relocating from California amid potential wealth taxation.
