Ramp Launches AI Model Routing Service ‘Router’ in the US
Corporate expense management platform Ramp has unveiled its AI model routing service, named Router, providing users the ability to switch between various large language models via an API. The service, which Ramp has utilized internally for three years, aims to streamline AI usage for companies in the burgeoning AI inference sector.
Currently available only in the United States, Router is free to use through the end of 2026, although users will still incur costs for AI model inference. Additionally, new users can benefit from a $26 credit launch offer, while the pricing for 2027 has yet to be disclosed.
Router functions similarly to existing services like OpenRouter, albeit with a more limited selection of AI models. Users can access models from major providers, including OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Moonshot, Minimax, Nvidia, xAI, and Z.ai. The service also incorporates several strategies that allow customers to route their AI requests based on preferences, such as utilizing specific model providers’ flexible usage tiers or directing queries based on user-defined benchmarks.
To enhance user experience, Router includes a dashboard that displays important metrics, such as token spending, costs, latency, and fallback attempts.
Importantly, Ramp has implemented an opt-out data retention policy. By default, Router will record model inputs, outputs, and tool calls for one year, but will remove personally identifiable information before utilizing this data to improve the service.
For Ramp, this expansion into model routing presents a significant opportunity to engage with the rapidly growing AI inference market while offering a complementary service to existing products, which include monitoring of AI token usage and management of token spend. Success with Router may also facilitate long-term partnerships with AI labs and inference providers globally, thereby enhancing Ramp’s customer acquisition and commercial strategies. The company raised $750 million with a valuation of $44 billion in June.
