Antigua and Barbuda Falcons Secure Three-Wicket Victory Over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons triumphed over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by three wickets in a tense encounter, scoring 191 for 7 after the Patriots set a target of 188 with a total of 187 for 6. Evin Lewis top-scored for the Falcons with 48 runs, while Dasun Shanaka starred for the Patriots with an unbeaten 49 off just 17 balls.

Asked to bat first by Moeen Ali, the Patriots had a solid start, reaching 51 runs in the powerplay, losing only Johnson Charles, who scored 17 off 14 balls before being dismissed in the third over. The partnership of 57 runs between Kyle Mayers and Andre Fletcher proved to be the foundation of the innings, although their pace of scoring limited momentum, with Fletcher taking 24 balls for his score of 20.

After the dismissal of both Mayers and Fletcher in the tenth over—Fletcher run out and Mayers dismissed by Jason Holder—Patriots struggled to build further momentum. The team found themselves at 80 for 4 after 11 overs, with Kevin Wickham soon falling to Shadab Khan for a low score.

A 46-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Jason Holder and Nikhil Chaudhary failed to accelerate the run rate, taking 32 balls. However, it was Shanaka’s explosive batting that reignited the innings; he contributed 20 runs in nine balls during a swift partnership with Holder before unleashing a flurry of runs, scoring 29 runs in just eight balls alongside Wanindu Hasaranga. Shanaka finished the innings not out on 49, bolstered by five fours and four sixes.

The Falcons lost Amir Jangoo early in the first over to Mayers, but the Patriots’ slow scoring during the innings ultimately impacted their ability to defend their total. Evin Lewis and Karima Gore formed a crucial second-wicket partnership, accumulating 34 runs off 24 balls. Lewis then collaborated with Hasan Nawaz to add 78 runs in 56 balls, setting a steadier pace than the Patriots had achieved through the middle overs.

Lewis was dismissed for 48 in the 14th over, followed by Nawaz for 33 in the next. With 74 runs required from less than six overs, Shadab accelerated the chase with a brisk 30 runs off 12 balls. Moeen Ali contributed an unbeaten 25 off 12 balls, while Shamar Springer added 15 runs in six balls to secure the win for the Falcons, who reached their target with a decent but unconvincing performance.
