Jagex Unveils RuneScape Reignited: A Fresh Start for All Players

Jagex is introducing RuneScape Reignited, providing long-time, lapsed, and new players with a fresh start. This new permanent character type will be available starting December 2, 2026.
The announcement took place at the RuneFest 2026 event, where Jagex also unveiled its fourth RuneScape MMO, built in Unreal Engine. Alongside RuneScape Reignited, details were shared through a blog post titled “RuneScape As It Was Always Meant To Be,” which outlines the character’s new economy and hiscores—without any paid progression options.
According to Jagex, “It plays out in the same worlds that all existing characters are already playing in, and all Reignited characters will have free access to members’ content for the first 10 days following its launch.”
The team expressed their enthusiasm: “If you’ve ever felt lost or left behind in RuneScape, or have been unsure of how to come back or where to begin… There genuinely has never been a better time to jump back in or to experience the full adventure from the start – so we’ve made a reason to do just that.” They further stated, “Reignited is the culmination of everything that we have been building towards this year, and yet it is also the start of a brand new chapter.”
For newcomers, RuneScape Reignited offers the chance to “experience 25 years of RuneScape, from a new shared starting point.” Existing players will see “worlds thriving again and helping the community grow in all directions.” Similar to Ironman players, Reignited characters will be incorporated into the day-to-day experience in Gielinor.
The launch on December 2 will include not only RuneScape Reignited but also The Adventure Guide and advancements in Remastering RuneScape, all in a single update.
Additionally, Jagex has confirmed plans for a new RuneScape animated adaptation in collaboration with YouTuber Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White. The developer also noted the announcement of a fourth MMO franchise installment at RuneFest in Birmingham.
A recent incident involving a clone of Old School RuneScape emerged online, which quickly drew the ire of the RuneScape community and was subsequently shut down.
