GTA 6 PC Release Date Slated for Q1 2027, Sources Say
- GTA 6 is reported to release on PC in Q1 2027, according to GamesBeat.
- The game will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2024, before the PC version.
- Rockstar Games is facing scrutiny for alleged union-busting after the firing of 31 employees.
A recent report from GamesBeat indicates that the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2027. This information comes from sources who preferred to remain anonymous to safeguard their business relationships. A request for comment from Rockstar Games went unanswered prior to the article’s publication.
This anticipated PC release follows a console-only launch for GTA 6, set for November 19, 2024, on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. If the report is accurate, PC players will experience a delay of approximately two to five months following the console launch. Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick previously mentioned that while the company typically does not launch products across all platforms simultaneously, he recognizes the strong demand for the game in non-console markets.
The release window for the PC version would be considerably shorter than previous Rockstar titles; for instance, GTA 5 was released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, but the PC version was held back until April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 came to consoles in October 2018 and to PC a little over a year later, in November 2019. However, as of now, Rockstar has not confirmed the purported release timeline for GTA 6 on PC.
In related news, a prominent leaker known as CyberLeek has threatened to release a playable build of GTA 6, suggesting they possess a working version of the game. This has prompted Rockstar to respond, reportedly issuing a formal statement and attempting to subpoena Discord to track down the leaker.
Looking ahead, Rockstar may be keen to release the PC version sooner to capitalize on the significant revenue generated by GTA Online, which has been a major profit driver for GTA 5. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has indicated that the new iteration of GTA Online is projected to launch in 2027, suggesting that Rockstar is strategizing to enhance engagement with the game’s online features.
As anticipation builds for GTA 6’s release, Rockstar continues to navigate challenges with the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) pertaining to the dismissal of 31 Rockstar North employees last year, alleged to be part of an effort to undermine union activity.
