Blizzard’s Holly Longdale Discusses World of Warcraft: Forever Beta at PAX Australia

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Holly Longdale highlighted the record-breaking popularity of the World of Warcraft: Forever beta at PAX Australia.
  • Blizzard has been proactive in addressing player feedback while recognizing the diverse sources of opinions.
  • The game launches on November 4th, aiming to engage both veteran and new players in its unique offering.

During her appearance at PAX Australia, World of Warcraft executive producer Holly Longdale discussed the overwhelming popularity of the World of Warcraft: Forever beta. She described the influx of players as “insane,” noting that it represented “no beta bigger than this” in Blizzard’s history. This aligns with previous remarks made by Longdale, following a server cap increase shortly after the beta’s launch.

Longdale also addressed the issue of player feedback, stating that while Blizzard is “delighted” by the engagement, they must be selective about which comments to consider. She explained, “Social media when these MMOs came out wasn’t really a thing, so we had some very focused areas where we got feedback. Now feedback comes from everywhere,” adding, “You don’t listen to the loudest people in the room.”

The Forever team has acted swiftly in response to player input, recently overhauling the Skyborne elf models to align better with the Classic WoW aesthetic. Additional changes include revisions to dungeon loot and significant adjustments to spell buffs, particularly benefiting druids, all shaped by community feedback and data analysis.

Longdale acknowledged that not every decision would please all players, stating, “You just have to accept that you’re not going to make everybody happy. We have to make some calls, determine, ‘What is our game? What is it for? Who is it for?'” She emphasized the challenge of balancing player satisfaction while delivering a cohesive gaming experience.

As the release date of November 4th approaches, World of Warcraft: Forever is drawing interest from both former and current players, indicating a potentially strong community presence upon launch despite its departures from both modern and Classic versions of the game.
