Analogue, known for its innovative retro gaming consoles, has unveiled the Mega SG+ and Super Nt+, which are updated versions of its earlier machines, the Mega SG and Super Nt. These consoles are designed to play original Sega and Nintendo cartridges while incorporating modern technological advancements.
The original Super Nt was released in 2018, followed by the Mega SG in 2019. The new versions boast “an FPGA designed in-house from scratch and backed by more than a decade of development,” as stated by the company. This technology ensures gameplay is “rock solid,” with “no emulation,” a purpose-built 1080p output for 2D gaming, zero lag, and total accuracy.
In terms of game compatibility, the Mega SG+ offers full compatibility with over 2,180 games from the Sega Genesis, Mega Drive, Master System, Game Gear, Mycard Adapter, and Mark III/SG1000 libraries. Meanwhile, the Super Nt+ supports more than 2,200 titles from the Super Nintendo and Super Famicom.
Both upgraded consoles feature a new “industrial” aesthetic and support wireless controllers through Bluetooth and 2.4GHz connectivity. Users can also hot-swap game cartridges without turning off the console; they only need to exit their current game to switch cartridges. Furthermore, powering the consoles on and off can now be done using a controller, and a USB-C power supply and cable are included in the package.
For those interested in purchasing, pre-orders will open on October 19 via the Analogue website, with shipping expected in December. Each console is priced at $219.99, with the Mega SG+ available in three regions — Japan, EU, and US — and the Super Nt+ offered in Classic, SF, and Black variants.
