Arc Raiders Sees Major Player Surge Following Frozen Trails Update and Free Weekend
- Arc Raiders’ Frozen Trails update launched on October 8 and coincided with a free weekend, boosting player engagement.
- On October 14, the game reached 1.7 million daily players, marking its highest count in six months.
- The game also had a 50% discount, selling an additional 150,000 copies within three days post-free trial.
Arc Raiders continues to maintain its popularity nearly a year after achieving viral success, primarily due to Embark Studios’ strategic release of the Frozen Trails update and a free weekend. The update, which upgraded the extraction shooter to version 2.0 on October 8, sparked renewed interest among players seeking its engaging PvEvP gameplay.
According to a report from Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliott, this resurgence in player interest was observed across all platforms where Arc Raiders is available. The game’s daily player count peaked at 1.7 million on October 14, its highest mark in six months, largely attributed to the recent updates and promotions. Interestingly, player numbers surged just after the free trial weekend concluded on October 12, during which approximately 150,000 new players joined the game.
These events coincided with a significant promotional offering, reducing the game’s price by 50% to $19.99. Following the free trial, Arc Raiders reportedly sold an additional 150,000 copies in just three days, generating approximately $3 million, excluding revenue from microtransactions.
Embark Studios maximized this opportunity with the Frozen Trails update, which introduced various enhancements including a new map, new weapons, and new formidable mechs. Moreover, a PvE test run was conducted from October 13 to 20 to cater to the game’s community, noted for being exceptionally friendly. Executive producer Aleksander Grøndal indicated that the team is open to the idea of permanently separating the PvEvP gameplay into distinct PvE and PvP experiences, which could potentially lead to further resurgences.
In addition, earlier this month, it was announced that the production company responsible for the summer horror film, Backrooms, is adapting Arc Raiders and The Finals into film and television projects, with the developer Embark also involved in these developments.
