Destiny 2 Fans Are About to Go Wild—Bungie Teases Major Content Comeback!

Date:

Bungie Details Plans for ‘Unvaulting’ Destiny 2 Content

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Bungie is preparing to bring back removed content from Destiny 2.
  • Head of Product Josh Deane will provide more details at the end of October.
  • Previously removed campaigns and raids will return, but not expired live seasons.

Last month, Bungie announced plans to restore various Destiny 2 campaigns and other elements that had been removed from the game over the years, sparking excitement among players. However, the initial announcement lacked detailed information and a specific timeline for the unvaulting process.

Recently, Josh Deane, Bungie’s head of product, indicated that the developer is nearing a substantial progress update. “I know there are a lot of questions on the how, what, when of unvaulting. Including any potential future updates to D2 and what’s beyond for Destiny,” Deane stated on X. He emphasized that the process will be intentional and will require time to execute fully.

Deane mentioned that Bungie plans to clarify its first steps toward unvaulting at the end of October. He noted that the upcoming update will not follow a traditional roadmap format; instead, it will function as “a progress bar” intended to keep players consistently informed about development milestones.

To ensure transparency, Deane explained, “Just be transparent about any challenges we run into and show you the proof of work along the way that unlocks further understanding. That way when we share a release date we’re all on the same page and have the right expectations that lead directly into how we’ll further celebrate Destiny’s legacy and vision for the future.”

Following the initial announcement on unvaulting Destiny 2 content, a Forbes report clarified what players might expect. The report indicated that while removed campaigns, raids, and destinations will make a return, expired live seasons would not be reinstated. It also suggested that the efforts to bring back content do not imply that Destiny 2 is resuming active development.

In June 2023, Bungie released a significant update marking the conclusion of active development for Destiny 2. This update included highly requested features, addressed longstanding issues, and introduced new gameplay elements, effectively reigniting interest in the game and prompting Bungie to initiate the restoration of previously removed content.
