- The game has surpassed 5 million sales, amidst a legal dispute over a $250 million bonus package.
Developer Unknown Worlds has announced the start of Subnautica 2’s “voyage to Early Access 2.0,” unveiling updates that include the creation of the game’s “scariest” underwater region to date.
In a video on the Subnautica YouTube channel, creative director Anthony Gallegos detailed the new update, highlighting various biomes within this unsettling area. The update will also introduce story expansions, altered Leviathan behaviors, and a “Frog” chassis for the tadpole submersible, effectively turning it into a pilotable mech.
Additionally, players will now have the ability to dash underwater when wearing fins, allowing for rapid propulsion at the push of a button, a feature that was previously limited to a biomod upgrade.
The update will also include new construction options for player bases, such as a round room, with more details set to be disclosed in the upcoming months through dedicated videos on specific changes.
No official release date for “Early Access 2.0” has been provided, nor has a specific timeframe been hinted at. This update signifies a significant enhancement to the gaming experience of the popular survival adventure title, which experienced considerable success upon its release earlier this year.
Subnautica has been at the center of a legal dispute involving Unknown Worlds’ founders and Krafton’s CEO regarding a substantial $250 million bonus tied to the game’s success. Following this issue, Krafton expressed aspirations to establish Subnautica as a “franchise IP,” aligning with Subnautica 2’s achievement of over 5 million sales.
