COD: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Players Face Shocking Road Spawns—What’s Causing This Chaos?

Date:

Players Encounter Major Bug in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Mode

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Early access to DMZ mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 opened for pre-order players.
  • A spawn bug can lead to immediate in-game deaths as players spawn in the path of enemy patrols.
  • A patch addressing this issue is expected soon, with traditional multiplayer set to launch on October 23.

Infinity Ward has made early access available to the DMZ extraction mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Players who have pre-ordered the game can now experience both the campaign and DMZ mode. Although initial feedback on DMZ is generally favorable, there is a critical issue affecting several players that can prematurely end their rounds.

The problem centers on player spawn locations within the DMZ’s Hajin map. As an extraction shooter, DMZ features multiple random spawn points, often positioned along the edges of the map to provide players with a chance to strategize. However, one particular spawn point is located in the middle of a road, creating a risk of players getting run over by passing enemy patrols as soon as they spawn.

This was nearly the experience of Reddit user grillimperator, who had a brief moment to react upon spawning. In contrast, Reddit user Deep-Operation-3552 was not as fortunate, dying immediately after gaining control of their character. Users in the discussion highlighted the absurdity of hearing the ‘Welcome to the DMZ’ voice alert right before dying, noting the apparent absence of spawn protection.

While DMZ does provide options for players to recover after being downed, lacking the necessary equipment means they cannot respond effectively, particularly in scenarios where immediate death from being run over occurs. Dying in DMZ results in players losing all the equipment they brought into the match, which can be particularly frustrating if they had packed valuable gear for that round.

Fortunately, this bug is among several issues that Infinity Ward has addressed in a forthcoming DMZ patch. The patch notes explicitly mention that they have “fixed some instances where enemy AI could run over players while infilling.”

Modern Warfare 4’s traditional multiplayer mode will unlock on October 23, coinciding with the game’s full launch for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2. Overall, player reception of the game’s campaign has been positive, with it ranking as one of the most well-received Call of Duty titles on Steam. Notably, one player succeeded in completing the campaign on its hardest difficulty in a single life, known as the YOLO mode.
