A24’s Elden Ring Movie Budget Surges to Nearly $200 Million
- A24’s live-action adaptation of Elden Ring will reportedly cost almost $200 million.
- The budget marks a significant increase from earlier estimates of over $100 million.
- The film is set for a theatrical release on March 3, 2028, featuring a star-studded cast.
A24’s upcoming live-action film adaptation of Elden Ring is expected to be the studio’s most expensive production, with a reported budget nearing $200 million. This figure emerges from a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, indicating a substantial rise from previous estimations made in April, which suggested the budget was “well over” $100 million.
To provide context, A24’s most costly movie to date, Marty Supreme, had a reported budget of approximately $70 million, following Alex Garland’s Civil War, which cost around $50 million.
While the WSJ’s report centers on the film’s budget, it also highlights A24’s increasing influence in Hollywood, as competitors observe its success. Julie Huntsinger, director of the Telluride Film Festival, remarked, “They’re a Goldilocks company. Just the right amount of people doing just the right amount of things.”
Directed by Alex Garland, who is also writing the screenplay, the film is being shot in IMAX and is scheduled to hit theaters on March 3, 2028. The cast includes Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, and Nick Offerman.
The original Elden Ring, released by FromSoftware in February 2022, features lore authored by George R.R. Martin from Game of Thrones.
Production appears to be progressing well for Garland’s adaptation, which serves as a prequel to the RPG. Recent reports suggest that characters such as Dung Eater will be included, indicating fans can expect a faithful rendition. New videos from the set have hinted at the presence of low-level enemies as well.
During the summer, a leaked video showcased the real set at Conwy Castle in North Wales, where familiar human soldiers were spotted on the walls and towers. Earlier in April, the North Wales Pioneer had mentioned that filming would take place at that location.
