Roblox Hosts Unofficial Remakes of Iconic Games
- Roblox features remakes of games like Counter-Strike, The Simpsons: Hit and Run, and Superhot.
- The games have been created by users, not the original developers.
- Eurogamer reported on their playability, noting similarities to the originals.
Multiple remakes of popular games such as Counter-Strike, The Simpsons: Hit and Run, and Superhot are currently available on Roblox, all uploaded by users rather than the original creators. One particular game, described by user Takeoff Interactive as a “passion project” and “inspired by Counter-Strike,” is devoid of monetization features, according to its description. Eurogamer recently played this game, highlighting that it visually and functionally resembles Counter-Strike.
The game offers a standard bomb diffusion mode, with two teams competing over two bomb sites. While it exhibits some shortcomings such as missing sound effects and less convincing smoke graphics, it remains a strikingly similar recreation of Valve’s game without any official involvement from the company.
Another offering, titled the PlayStation Experience, replicates a fully functional PlayStation 4 dashboard. It includes a media gallery, web browser, and trophies, along with a server-based chat feature for Roblox players. The dashboard allows access to seven playable games, predominantly indie titles, including The Simpsons: Hit and Run, Cluster Truck, Superhot, Gang Beasts, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Undertale, and PaRappa the Rapper.
Eurogamer also explored The Simpsons: Hit and Run within Roblox and found it to be a largely faithful recreation of Activision’s game, enabling players to roam Springfield and create chaos similar to the original, albeit with minor navigation issues. Additionally, Superhot, another classic reimagined on the platform, maintains much of its original gameplay mechanics and style, although it does not match the visual appeal of the original version. These titles were uploaded to Roblox by user Redwing Works, not by Activision, the Superhot development team, or Sony.
It’s noteworthy that these Roblox games are full copies rather than mere inspirations, differing from existing titles like Counter Blox and Arsenal that borrow elements without directly replicating popular titles. The practice of recreating well-known games on Roblox without permission from original creators has precedence, as exemplified by the developers of Peak, who previously encouraged players to pirate their game instead of engaging with what they termed a “microtransaction-riddled ripoff” on Roblox.
Eurogamer has reached out to Sony and the developers for further comment on these remakes.
