Leak Reveals Spiny Was Intended as a Driver in Mario Kart World
- Dataminer discovers Spiny was planned as a playable character in Mario Kart World.
- Spiny’s internal name is ‘Togezo’; no models or animations have been found.
- Mario Kart World, launched with the Nintendo Switch 2, has received multiple updates since release.
A recent discovery by a dataminer has revealed that Spiny, a character resembling a small turtle with a spiky shell, was intended to be a playable driver in Mario Kart World. This revelation was made by Bluesky user Benial, who identified Spiny’s internal name as ‘Togezo’ within the game’s code, alongside other characters.
As of now, there has been no available model or animation for Spiny, nor any indication of how the character would be integrated into gameplay. Known primarily as an enemy from the Super Mario Bros. series, Spiny has been part of the Mario franchise since 1985, known for its fierce appearance and hostile demeanor.
Despite concerns over Spiny’s suitability as a driver, it is worth noting that other unconventional characters, such as Boo, are also featured as playable drivers in the series. This might suggest that there could have been potential for Spiny to join the racing lineup.
Mario Kart World, launched as a title for the Nintendo Switch 2, has performed well since its release and has benefited from several updates, including the addition of a battle mode and team races to its tour mode. These features have enhanced the gaming experience, even without Spiny’s involvement.
