Marty O’Donnell’s Congressional Bid Falters After Mid-Term Elections

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Marty O’Donnell’s attempt to win a House seat in Nevada’s Third Congressional District is projected to fail.
  • Incumbent Democrat Susie Lee leads with 59.1% of the vote, compared to O’Donnell’s 38.6%.
  • O’Donnell’s platform focused on economic measures, and he faced scrutiny for his past controversial comments.

Marty O’Donnell, known for his work as a composer for Halo and Destiny, has encountered significant obstacles in his political campaign following the recent US mid-term elections. Running as a Republican candidate for a seat in Nevada’s Third Congressional District, he is projected to lose the race.

As reported by the Associated Press at 9 a.m. this morning, O’Donnell trails incumbent Democrat Susie Lee, who holds 59.1 percent of the vote, while O’Donnell has secured only 38.6 percent. The vote tally reveals a gap of over 51,000 votes in favor of Lee, with the Associated Press estimating that approximately 86 percent of the votes have been counted, making a comeback by O’Donnell unlikely.

O’Donnell, who made a name for himself composing iconic soundtracks for Bungie, transitioned to the political scene after being fired from the studio in 2014. His political journey has not been without controversy; he previously categorized LGBTQA+ individuals as an “existential threat” alongside Marxism and Islamists and has expressed opposition to same-sex marriage equality, which attracted scrutiny during his campaign.

According to his campaign website, O’Donnell’s platform emphasized economic improvement, support for small businesses, enhanced border security, and measures against corruption. While he opted not to accept corporate Political Action Committee (PAC) funding, he did receive support from the Trump-associated Safety and Affordability Super PAC, which withdrew $2 million in funding last month.

O’Donnell previously won a settlement from Bungie after claiming he was fired “without cause.” In a related legal matter, he was found in contempt of court in 2021 after uploading assets from Destiny to his personal YouTube channel.
