- God of War Laufey’s release has been postponed to May 20, 2027.
- The delay was announced by developer Sony Santa Monica via social media.
- This title marks the first in the series not to feature Kratos as the main character.
God of War Laufey, the upcoming PS5 exclusive from Sony Santa Monica, has been delayed, with the new release date set for May 20, 2027. The studio made this announcement through a short social media post, indicating that the additional time is intended for further polishing of the game.
In its statement, Sony Santa Monica expressed gratitude for the enthusiasm surrounding Faye’s upcoming adventure, stating, “Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey through the Everywhen.” The studio emphasized its commitment to delivering an extraordinary experience that aligns with fans’ expectations, adding, “We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.”
God of War Laufey distinguishes itself as the first title in the acclaimed series to not feature Kratos in a leading role, with the narrative instead focusing on Faye navigating a mythical version of the afterlife replete with gods from various mythologies. The game also aims to restore the fast-paced combat style that characterized earlier entries in the franchise.
Kratos will not be entirely absent, as he is expected to appear in future installments and is suggested to have narrative connections to Laufey, according to developer insights.
The delay may benefit players concerned about their gaming backlogs, as February 2027 is expected to be crowded with significant releases, including the Fable reboot and Persona 4 Revival. The postponement could provide players with much-needed breathing room for their gaming schedules.
