Gaming History Made: 1986’s Original Doraemon Famicom Game Finally Heads West
Nearly four decades after its initial Japanese debut, the classic 1986 Doraemon Famicom game is officially receiving its first-ever Western release. Hamster Corporation announced that the retro title will launch on Thursday for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 as part of its Console Archives series, bringing Hudson Soft’s iconic 8-bit action game to international audiences for the very first time.
A Time-Traveling Rescue Mission
Originally released by Hudson Soft for Nintendo’s Famicom in 1986, the retro action title puts players in the shoes of the titular robot cat, Doraemon. Armed with a variety of futuristic Secret Gadgets, players must embark on a rescue mission to track down Nobita, Shizuka, Gian, and Suneo, who became scattered across time due to a malfunctioning time machine. While the legendary manga by Fujiko F. Fujio and Fujiko Fujio A launched a globally celebrated multimedia franchise, this foundational piece of gaming history remained exclusive to Japan—until now.
