This week, the fierce rivalry between LaLiga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid continues as both clubs reveal their third kits for the 2026-27 season. Barcelona’s new kit, launched on Tuesday, draws inspiration from the teal and turquoise uniforms worn between 1995 and 1997, featuring distinctive zig-zags and jagged paneling that contributed to the original design’s cult status.
The launch celebrates not only the nostalgic elements of the 1995-96 season, which did not yield any trophies for Barça, but also highlights the club’s subsequent success in the 1996-97 season. Under Sir Bobby Robson’s management, that year saw Barcelona clinch the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Supercopa, largely powered by Brazilian forward Ronaldo Nazário, who scored 47 goals in all competitions.
The marketing material for the kit emphasizes the journey of young Barcelona supporters who have grown to represent the club through their development in La Masia and their transformation into champions of the Barça legacy.
Conversely, Real Madrid’s new third kit for the upcoming season opts for a more understated approach. The rose-tinted design serves as a tribute to the club’s expansive global fanbase, emphasizing its reach across various borders, languages, and cultures. The shirt features a chalky pink hue, with a fabric adorned by a geometric pattern inspired by Latin craftsmanship.
This marks Real Madrid’s first pink kit in six years, a departure from their prior hot pink version used in the 2020-21 season, which coincided with a trophyless campaign for the club during Zinedine Zidane’s last season in charge.
