Skye Nicolson Withdraws from Bout with Miyo Yoshida Due to Injury
Skye Nicolson has withdrawn from her upcoming title fight against Miyo Yoshida on the MVPW-06 card scheduled for August 29 due to an injury. Nicolson, the WBC junior featherweight champion with a professional record of 16 wins and 1 loss, was set to make her debut under Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions in Birmingham, England, on the undercard of the unification bout between Mikaela Mayer and Chantelle Cameron.
Miyo Yoshida, holding a record of 19 wins and 5 losses, will not remain on the card, as the fight against Nicolson is expected to be rescheduled. Nicolson signed with Most Valuable Promotions last month, following a strategic alliance with Paul’s promotion and Matchroom.
Nicolson expressed her regret at the postponement, stating, “I’d like to sincerely apologise to Miyo Yoshida and her team for this delay. I have nothing but respect for Miyo and I’m looking forward to finally sharing the ring with her before the end of the year.” She also shared positive news about supporting fellow athletes at the MVPW-05 event in Orlando this weekend while she recovers.
A new date for the fight with Yoshida is anticipated to be announced soon. Nicolson added, “I can’t wait to get back in the gym, back to full health, and back doing what I love. Thank you to everyone for your continued support and understanding.”
MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian shared his hopes for Nicolson’s swift recovery, stating, “Skye Nicolson has unfortunately been forced to postpone her MVP debut due to injury, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery. We look forward to welcoming her back to the ring soon.”
Additionally, Indian boxer Neeraj Goyat has joined the undercard to compete against Yessin Koulai. Goyat, with a record of 20 wins, 4 losses, and 2 draws, stated, “I’m proud to represent India on the global stage again with Most Valuable Promotions. This is another important step in my journey to show the world why Indian boxing belongs on the biggest stages.”
