Afghanistan Claims Series Win with 42-Run Victory Over Ireland

Afghanistan secured a commanding 42-run victory against Ireland in Belfast on Wednesday, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. With one match still to play, Afghanistan’s performance showcased their batting prowess, as they posted 343 runs for 9 wickets after being put in to bat.

Centuries from Ibrahim Zadran and Sediqullah Atal were instrumental in building Afghanistan’s imposing total. Zadran scored 107 runs while Atal marked his 25th birthday with a brilliant 143 runs. Their partnership of 231 runs stands as the highest-ever second-wicket stand for Afghanistan in One Day Internationals, surpassing a 16-year-old record previously held by Karin Sadiq and Mohammad Shahzad.

In reply, Ireland struggled to mount a serious challenge, getting bowled out for 301 in 48 overs. Andy Balbirnie’s 109 provided some solace, but the team never truly threatened Afghanistan’s total.
