Indian Women’s Hockey Team Rallies for 2-2 Draw Against Scotland in FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers

The Indian Women’s Hockey Team fought to a 2-2 draw against Scotland in their second Pool B match of the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers on Monday. This result leaves both teams with four points in the group, but India tops the standings due to a superior goal difference.

Scotland took an early lead in the 6th minute when Heather McEwan converted a penalty corner, putting them ahead 1-0. India, starting in a 3-4-3 formation, regained composure in the second quarter. In the 17th minute, after a fumbled penalty corner trap, Navneet Kaur managed to equalize for India, smashing the ball past Scottish goalkeeper Jessica Buchanan.

India continued to pressure Scotland and took the lead in the 29th minute. Following a chaotic goalmouth scramble, Sunelita Toppo capitalized on a rebound off the woodwork from another penalty corner, securing a 2-1 advantage heading into halftime.

The second half saw Scotland equalizing in the 33rd minute with a well-executed passing move from McEwan to Fiona Burnet. Post-equalization, Scotland maintained control for seven minutes, limiting India’s offensive opportunities. However, India managed to earn three consecutive penalty corners later in the game. Despite significant efforts, they were unable to convert, leaving the match tied at 2-2.
