Nikki Reed and Kristen Stewart Share Hair Struggles During Twilight Saga

Nikki Reed, known for her role as Rosalie Cullen in the Twilight film series, revealed that she dyed her hair blonde for the first movie, but later opted to wear a wig for the remainder of the franchise. This decision stemmed from significant hair damage; Reed disclosed to MTV, “My hair fell out,” explaining the rigorous process that took “36 hours initially to make me blond.” She added that she was bleaching her hair every other day, leading to her choice of testing different wigs for the series moving forward.

Kristen Stewart, who played Bella Swan, encountered her own hair challenges while filming the series. After cutting her hair for her role as Joan Jett in The Runaways, she wore a wig in Eclipse that drew criticism from fans. Ahead of filming Breaking Dawn: Part 1, Stewart reassured her audience that she would return to using her own hair. During a conversation with George Lopez in 2010, she revealed that Summit Entertainment, the studio behind Twilight, initially pressured her not to cut her hair. “They’re going to hate me for this, but they offered me lots of ridiculous… many ridiculous things to not do that,” she shared. Stewart expressed understanding about their concerns, stating, “I just thought we’d have a better… wig, and, uh, it’s OK, we worked it out, and hopefully, hopefully, hopefully, it’s OK now.”
