Bruno Fernandes Misses Second Consecutive Penalty as Manchester United Fall 4-2 to AC Milan

During a preseason friendly in Wroclaw, Poland, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty for the second consecutive match as the team suffered a 4-2 defeat against AC Milan. After failing to convert a spot-kick in a shoot-out against Leeds earlier in the week, Fernandes had an opportunity to score but was thwarted by Milan goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, who dived to his right to deflect the shot.

Fernandes did contribute to United’s early lead by providing an assist from a corner in the second minute, which was powerfully headed in by Harry Maguire. However, the momentum shifted when Milan equalised, thanks to a defensive error that allowed Gonçalo Ramos to set up Samuel Chukwueze for a goal.

Just before halftime, United were awarded another penalty after Koni De Winter fouled Youri Tielemans, but Torriani again guessed correctly, denying Fernandes on this occasion as well.

Manchester United briefly regained the lead when Patrick Dorgu capitalised on a backpass mishap from Filippo Terracciano. Yet, Milan quickly levelled the score again when Chukwueze’s misdirected shot was converted at the far post by Alphadjo Cissè.

Marcus Rashford, returning from loan stints at Aston Villa and Barcelona, made his first appearance for United following his return to the club, coming on as a substitute in the 60th minute. Despite this, Milan took control of the match in the second half, with Ramos scoring the third goal from a Chukwueze cross in the 68th minute. Just three minutes later, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, a former Chelsea midfielder, added a fourth for Milan, sealing United’s defeat.
