Ruben Amorim Feels No Emotion Facing Former Club as AC Milan Beats Manchester United 4-2

AC Milan coach Ruben Amorim expressed that he felt “nothing” facing his former club Manchester United during their final preseason friendly, which ended in a 4-2 victory for Milan. This match marked Amorim’s first win as head coach of Milan, providing the Italian side with a positive momentum ahead of the Serie A campaign.

Amorim, who managed Manchester United for 14 months before taking the reins at Milan in June, described the encounter as just another match. “For me, it was just a normal match,” he stated in an interview with Sky Sport Italia. He added that since his signing with Milan, he has not felt any emotional connection to Manchester United, despite holding pride for his time there. “I still love the club, but after signing with Milan, I feel nothing bad about anything because I’m very happy,” he remarked.

In the match, Milan came from behind to secure the victory with goals from Samuel Chukwueze, Alphadjo Cissè, Gonçalo Ramos, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Amorim emphasized that winning was crucial not only for the team’s confidence but also to present a strong image for their fans ahead of the opening match of the league season against Torino, scheduled for next weekend.

Following the game, Amorim addressed personnel matters, notably the future of Rafael Leão. He indicated that Leão would need to “fight for his place” due to competition from players such as Christian Pulisic and Alexis Saelemaekers. Amorim also downplayed concerns regarding Leão’s injury, suggesting it was not serious.

Additonally, Amorim confirmed that both Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot had been granted extra time off at his request and are set to return to training on Sunday in preparation for the league opener.
