Suthar and Jadeja Propel India to 178-Run Lead Over Sri Lanka

In a compelling display of bowling, India dismissed Sri Lanka for 284, establishing a substantial first-innings lead of 178 runs in the ongoing Test match. Manav Suthar was instrumental in this effort, claiming four wickets for 76 runs, including a decisive opening delivery wicket. Ravindra Jadeja supported with three wickets, while the other bowlers each contributed one, allowing India to maintain dominance.

India had hopes of enforcing a follow-on after reducing Sri Lanka to 90 for 5. However, Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella foiled that plan with a resilient 146-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Dinusha celebrated his maiden Test century with a score of 100, while Dickwella, despite his commendable knock of 80, continues to hold the record for the most Test half-centuries without achieving a century.

Suthar made his presence felt early in the innings, taking the crease in the eighth over after India frustratingly lost their last wicket for just four runs at nine down. Early wickets from Mohammed Siraj set the stage for Suthar, who quickly capitalized on the conditions, utilizing overspin and sharp turn to unsettle the Sri Lankan batsmen. His first delivery resulted in the glove of Dinesh Chandimal, and he continued to trouble the batsmen, leading to another straightforward catch for Lahiru Udara at backward point.

Kuldeep Yadav also played a key role, claiming a vital wicket of Kamindu Mendis with Shubman Gill’s exceptional one-handed catch at short cover enhancing the moment. Meanwhile, Jadeja’s bowling proved devastating, exploiting the turning conditions to differentially dismiss Dhananjaya de Silva, whose disciplined approach came undone when providing an edge on a delivery that turned unexpectedly.
