Jack Grealish Could See Playing Time at Manchester City, Says Enzo Maresca

Enzo Maresca has stated that Jack Grealish will be afforded minutes in the upcoming Manchester City season if he “deserves” to play, though he did not rule out the possibility of the player leaving the club. Grealish made his first appearance for City in over a year during the Community Shield, where he came on at half-time for Jérémy Doku while the team was trailing 2-0 in a 3-0 loss to Arsenal.

“Jack came on when we were already 2-0 down, so the game had already become complicated,” Maresca said in a post-match news conference regarding Grealish’s performance. “But overall, I think Jack was good. The ones that are still here are gonna work every day, and if they deserve it, they’re going to get minutes.”

Maresca maintained a reserved stance when queried about Grealish’s future, noting, “At the moment, the transfer window is open and we’ll see what happens.”

Last season, Grealish was loaned to Everton following a challenging period at City from 2023 to 2025. He started his time at Everton well, registering four assists in his first four appearances, hinting at a resurgence in form. Unfortunately, his season was cut short in January when he sustained a foot stress fracture that necessitated surgery.

Grealish joined Manchester City in 2021 for a then-record transfer fee for a British player and played a pivotal role in the club’s Treble-winning campaign in the 2022-23 season. However, he has struggled to regain that form since then, and the uncertainty surrounding his future remains as the transfer window continues.
