Julie Andrews Confirms Retirement from Acting Amid Princess Diaries Franchise Changes

Julie Andrews has announced that she will not reprise her role as Queen Clarisse in the upcoming installment of the Princess Diaries franchise. In an interview with Today.com published on August 10, Andrews stated, “I’m not going to be in it.” She expressed uncertainty about how the new story would unfold, indicating that the narrative has shifted. “I think the story has to continue in Princess Mia,” she added, emphasizing that the focus of the story has changed, stating, “It’s her story. It’s not really mine.”

Andrews also reflected on her career status. When discussing her future in acting, she shared with InStyle that she feels she is effectively retired. “I think I’m retired, really, would be about the best description for that,” she said. Despite being approached by the film’s creative team throughout the previous year about her interest in returning, she found it challenging to decline the opportunity. “It was very, very hard to say ‘no,’ but I did,” she admitted.

As Andrews steps back, fans of the franchise may look forward to exploring the next chapter through Princess Mia’s journey, while the original Queen Clarisse gracefully passes her crown.
