PSG’s Ligue 1 Opener Against Rennes Relocated Due to Pitch Damage

Paris Saint-Germain’s opening match of their Ligue 1 title defense against Rennes has been moved to a different venue due to significant damage to the pitch at Parc des Princes, the club announced. The match, originally scheduled for Sunday, will now take place in Rennes, as confirmed by France football’s competitions committee on Wednesday.

PSG cited the deteriorating condition of their home pitch, stating, “the current conditions did not allow the match to be held under satisfactory circumstances, particularly with regard to the safety and physical well-being of the players.” The decision to relocate was made in agreement with Rennes, for which PSG expressed gratitude in making the match possible.

The club acknowledged the inconvenience this change presents for fans, saying, “Paris Saint-Germain fully understands the inconvenience caused by this change for its supporters and all those who had planned to attend this match at the Parc des Princes.” PSG added that they regret this “exceptional situation.”

In response to the pitch issues, PSG has identified a solution for a replacement that will be implemented for their upcoming matches, starting with a home game against AS Monaco on September 4.
