Jenna Fischer Drops a Bombshell: The Surprising Reason She’s Stepping Away from TV!

Jenna Fischer’s Kids Only See Her as a Podcaster; Steve Carell Discusses Resurgence of The Office

In a recent comment, Jenna Fischer revealed that her children perceive her mainly as a podcaster, indicating their limited understanding of her work beyond that label. “They were so little when that change happened, they thought of me as a podcaster,” Fischer stated. She further noted that when asked what their mother does, they simply respond, “Oh she’s a podcaster. She has a podcast.” Despite her podcast being linked to her role on The Office, Fischer mentioned, “They didn’t even understand what my podcast was about.”

Fischer is not alone in moving away from traditional corporate roles. Steve Carell, who portrayed Michael Scott in the original series for seven seasons, has also distanced himself from the possibility of revisiting his iconic role. While there has been renewed interest in The Office and discussions about bringing it back, Carell expressed reservations in a 2018 interview with Esquire.

“There’s been a resurgence in interest in the show, and talk about bringing it back,” Carell explained. “But apart from the fact that I just don’t think that’s a good idea, it might be impossible to do that show today and have people accept it the way it was accepted 10 years ago. The climate’s different.” Carell emphasized that the cultural landscape has shifted significantly since the show’s original airing.

From Carell’s perspective, many original characters might not resonate well with current audiences, aside from Oscar Nuñez’s character, Oscar Martinez, who is the only original cast member featured in NBC’s recent show, The Paper. Carell commented on the nature of the original show’s content, saying, “A lot of what is depicted on that show is completely wrong-minded. That’s the point, you know? But I just don’t know how that would fly now. There’s a very high awareness of offensive things today—which is good, for sure. But at the same time, when you take a character like that too literally, it doesn’t really work.”

For insights on what other original cast members from The Office are pursuing now, stay tuned.
