Northamptonshire Reaches 56 for 2 Amid Rain-affected Day Against Lancashire
Northamptonshire concluded a rain-affected first day of their Rothesay County Championship match against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford, managing to score 56 for two after 18 overs. The match commenced late due to overnight rain, with play starting at 3:30 PM, and was further interrupted, leading to the abandonment of the day’s play at 5:30 PM.
Visiting skipper Luke Procter was unbeaten on 26 when play was halted. The conditions, more conducive to bowler-friendly performance typically observed in April, were challenging for batsmen as Northamptonshire began their innings under overcast skies.
Lancashire’s new-ball bowlers struggled to capitalize on their initial advantage after stand-in captain Josh Bohannon won the toss. Tom Bailey, usually consistent, bowled five overs but conceded 26 runs, while Mitch Stanley accounted for ten byes in his six overs. Northamptonshire, currently third in the championship standings, remains two points behind Kent, aiming for a return to Division One in 2027. Lancashire, on the other hand, seeks its first Championship victory since April 20th.
In other news for Lancashire supporters, Australian batsman Marcus Harris was awarded his Lancashire cap by Board member Mike Watkinson in a ceremony held in front of the pavilion. Harris has amassed 1,562 runs in 15 matches, including five centuries and eight fifties, and is contracted with the club until the end of next season.
