Blizzard Unveils New StarCraft Open-World Shooter Set for Spring 2030

Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced a new entry in the StarCraft series, this time as an original open-world shooter anticipated to launch in spring 2030. The reveal took place during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026, marking a significant moment as it is the first new standalone installment in the StarCraft franchise in around a decade.
Dan Hay, who previously served as lead producer on Ubisoft’s Far Cry series before joining Blizzard, presented the project, emphasizing that it offers “something new – an open-world shooter where every step is earned. Not from above, but down on the ground, in the mud, in the fire.”
Accompanying the announcement, Blizzard showcased a cinematic teaser rather than gameplay footage. The trailer follows a Terran recruit named Holt, whose deployment turns violent shortly after arriving on a Zerg-infested battlefield. Although not confirmed, the voice of Arcturus Mengsk is suggested to be present in the trailer.
The trailer’s description highlights the narrative, stating, “The sons and daughters of the Dominion answered the call when mankind needed them most. Their courage held the line. Their sacrifice bought us another day. Now the call comes to you. Carry their strength forward. No matter the cost.”
Details about the game remain sparse, but notably, the “returns 2030” screen featured only an Xbox logo, which may indicate that Xbox plans to maintain its commitment to keeping major titles exclusive to its platform.
In related announcements from the same ceremony, Blizzard also introduced Diablo 5, projected for release in spring 2029, and confirmed an animated Diablo series is in development for Netflix.
