- World of Warcraft Forever, a remastered version of vanilla WoW, will be available on November 4, locking players at level 60.
- A 30-hour campaign for Warcraft 3, titled Forsaken Kingdom, launched immediately after the ceremony.
During the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony on September 12, Blizzard Entertainment unveiled a series of exciting announcements following a two-year hiatus for the convention. The show commenced at 6:30 PM BST, featuring a full lineup of reveals.
One of the main highlights was the announcement of a brand new StarCraft shooter set to release in 2030. Directed by Dan Hay, a veteran from the Far Cry series, this title aims to deliver an open-world experience with a focus on cooperative gameplay rather than a traditional multiplayer structure.
In a surprise reveal, Blizzard also announced Diablo 5, which is scheduled for release in Spring 2029. This installment will depict a world already under Diablo’s control, shifting the narrative from the typical Diablo formula of preventing evil to confronting it in a fallen world.
Additionally, Blizzard introduced World of Warcraft Forever, an expanded and remastered version of the original World of Warcraft. Set to launch on November 4, 2026, this version will maintain a cap at level 60 and evolve through new updates without progressing in traditional level scaling, reflecting audience feedback on gameplay dynamics.
The ceremony also saw Blizzard reveal a new campaign for Warcraft 3 titled Forsaken Kingdom, available immediately, which offers over 30 hours of new gameplay centered on the fall of Lordaeron.
Other notable announcements included a Switch 2 version of Diablo 4 and updates regarding new classes and expansions for existing titles. Fans can expect 10 new heroes for Overwatch as the game continues to grow through its annual expansion model, with Aaron Keller, the Overwatch director, highlighting plans for broader storytelling in the upcoming year.
The event wrapped up with excitement for both returning franchises and fresh content, setting the stage for Blizzard’s future endeavors amid ongoing industry changes.
