Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja Unveil Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, Set for Global Release on March 4, 2027

In an announcement ahead of the Tokyo Game Show, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have confirmed that their upcoming title, Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, is set for a global release on March 4, 2027. Along with this news, the companies revealed a robust alpha test in the form of a free demo that showcases an early look at the game, featuring an in-progress character creation system and online multiplayer support for up to three players.
The demo takes players to the “open field of Changban,” which represents an entire level in the game. Players will align with Liu Bei’s army to confront Cao Cao’s forces and battle demons influenced by classic Chinese legends. Completing the demo rewards players with a Fledgling Phoenix Helmet, a bonus item for the full game, which will be familiar to fans of Team Ninja and the Nioh series. A survey will also be provided after the demo for players to offer feedback, highlighting Team Ninja’s commitment to player input.
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Switch 2, and PC through Steam and Xbox. The demo is accessible on all these platforms, and the final game will also be included in the Xbox Game Pass at its launch.
To commemorate this announcement, a new trailer has been released, providing insights into the story, key characters, and gameplay mechanics. This installment transitions from the Yellow Turban Rebellion towards the Three Kingdoms era, inviting players to join Liu Bei in challenging Cao Cao’s forces.
According to a press release, “Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember takes players to China in 208 AD, after the events of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, when the village of the protagonist and their friend, Pang Tong, is devastated by Cao Cao’s forces as they march to invade Jing Province, plunging the land into war with demons roaming freely.” Players will assist Liu Bei in battling Cao Cao’s forces before collaborating with Sun Quan in Jiangdong to strategize against Cao Cao as he targets the Red Cliffs.

In Wo Long 2, players will embody two characters who “will soar through the skies above the decisive battle, taking on demons on the battlefield with an enhanced combat system.” The game promises to retain the fast-paced combat style of its predecessor while introducing new mechanics. Players will utilize Insight Skills to evade attacks and leverage terrain for counterattacks, enhancing the overall intensity and fluidity of combat.
Having had the opportunity to experience the demo at Gamescom, it’s evident that Wo Long 2 encapsulates the evolution of Team Ninja’s design philosophy, applying lessons learned from their previous titles like Nioh, Ninja Gaiden, and Dead or Alive.
