Atlus Considers Remakes of Persona 1 and 2 Following Persona 3 Reload and Persona 4 Revival

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Persona series producer Kazuhisa Wada suggests potential remakes of Persona 1 and 2.
  • Atlus has recently released Persona 3 Reload and is working on Persona 4 Revival, set for February 2024.
  • Wada emphasizes the importance of cultural preservation for older games in the franchise.

With the release of Persona 3 Reload and the upcoming Persona 4 Revival, set to launch in February 2024, series producer Kazuhisa Wada has indicated that remakes of the original Persona games, Persona 1 and Persona 2, will “probably” occur.

Atlus appears to be committed to revisiting its classic titles featuring high-school settings, demon battles, and life simulation elements. According to Wada, the initiative to remake Persona 3 and Persona 4 originated simultaneously, though the latter was temporarily shelved. He remarked, “I think a remaster or remake is some kind of cultural preservation,” highlighting the studio’s dedication to ensuring its legacy releases remain accessible.

Wada described it as Atlus’ “duty” to preserve older games so that they do not fade from memory. He noted, “Persona 1 and 2 are something we’ll probably eventually do, too,” reaffirming the possibility of future remakes.

Notably, Persona 1 and Persona 2 are currently the only primary entries in the series not available for purchase on modern platforms, underscoring Wada’s comments on cultural preservation.

Starting with Persona 3 for remakes aligns logically, as it introduced many of the series’ iconic features, such as social elements and dating. This decision also circumvents potential challenges in reintroducing sensitive themes from earlier titles, including difficult character depictions.

Years ago, a Sega insider claimed that remakes of Persona 1 and Persona 2 were in development, along with an unannounced Persona 4 remake at that time; however, the details regarding the extent of these proposed remakes remain unclear.
