A new firmware update for the PlayStation 5, version 26.06-14.00.00, has been released after a month of testing. This update includes the introduction of the Community Activity widget, which was not part of the previous beta testing phase but has been under scrutiny since May.
The Community Activity widget allows users to add it to their console’s Welcome Hub and features two main views: Trending Now and Top 10. The Trending Now section highlights a list of ten multiplayer games or modes that are currently gaining popularity across the PlayStation platform. This section includes games that have been recently updated, hot new releases, or those that have experienced a surge in player engagement.
The Top 10 view provides a straightforward list of the ten most popular games over the previous week, varying based on the player’s country or region for improved accuracy. Users may expect some consistency in these rankings weekly. However, a notable change from the beta version is the removal of player counts that were previously associated with each game in the Top 10.
Visual comparisons can be made between the beta (via TechPowerUp) and the final version (via SpawnPoint), demonstrating a significant shift in Sony’s approach. The omission of player counts in the final iteration indicates Sony’s deviation from a beta feature that appeared to follow a trend similar to Steam’s game player count displays.
Additionally, the update retains two major features from the beta: a default toggle for enabling PlayStation’s image upscaling technology (PSSR) on the PS5 Pro, and an option for users in certain regions to disable Bluetooth at the console level.
