Marvel’s Wolverine Hotfix Update Addresses Scent Trails and Game Crashes
- Marvel’s Wolverine update 01.001.005 modifies scent trail opacity and audio indicators.
- Insomniac Games is considering a toggle option for scent trails in future updates.
- Early sales estimates for the game reach 1.9 million copies, generating approximately $130 million in revenue.
Marvel’s Wolverine has released hotfix update version 01.001.005, which alters the game’s scent trails—a feature that has drawn criticism from players. These trails, represented by a bright blue line on-screen, aid Wolverine in locating mission objectives and collectibles.
The update does not eliminate the scent trails but reduces their opacity, making them less pronounced. Similarly, audio indicators related to the game’s sensory cues have been toned down.
Insomniac Games, in a blog post announcing the patch, stated that it “continues to evaluate ways to further improve senses” and is exploring the possibility of a toggle feature to completely disable scent trails in a future update.
The feature has been humorously labeled “fart gas” by some players and has faced significant ridicule online. Prior to the game’s release, there were requests from fans for the option to turn off these scent trails as they found them distracting.
Additionally, the update addresses certain game crashes affecting “a small percentage of players.”
While Sony has not disclosed official sales figures for Marvel’s Wolverine, early estimates indicate that approximately 1.9 million copies have been sold, including digital pre-orders and launch day sales, generating around $130 million (~£97 million) in revenue. Notably, physical sales accounted for 22.9 percent of the total, which is lower than the physical sales percentage of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which stood at 35 percent.
In a review by Eurogamer, Chris Tapsell expressed disappointment with Marvel’s Wolverine due to its outdated design, although he noted positive aspects in its character development.
